Moments after inaugurating the Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch of Delhi Metro’s Green Line, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday approved the proposal of setting up of a committee to lay down standards for metro rail systems in India.

The committee will be headed by E Sreedharan, popularly known as the metro man. Elattuvalapil Sreedharan, who is a retired Indian Engineering Service (IES) officer, has served as the managing director of Delhi Metro between 1995 to 2012.

Earlier in the day, the prime minister inaugurated the much-anticipated 11.2-km-long fully-elevated Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch of Delhi Metro’s Green Line via a video conference at 9:30 am.
