PM Narendra Modi, President Kovind Become First World Leaders To Be Followed By White House Twitter

The Twitter handle of the White House, the official residence of American presidents, has started following Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) and several other accounts related to India.

India and the United States are working as allies in the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi share a great camaraderie. The great chemistry between the two has been on display at various ocassions.

Now the Twitter handle of the White House, the official residence of American presidents, has started following Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) and several other accounts related to India. Incidentally, the White House follows only 19 accounts on Twitter. They are also following the accounts of the Indian Prime Minister's Office (@PMOIndia) and President Kam Nath Kovind (@rashtrapatibhvn). The White House does not follow any other world leader other than PM Modi and President Kovind.

The White House also follows other India-centric Twitter accounts- the US Embassy in India (@USAandIndia), India in US (@IndianEmbassyUS) as well as the account of the US Ambassador to India.

The India-centric handles followed by the White House include @narendramodi - the personal Twitter account of Modi, @PMOIndia - the official handle of Prime Minister of India, @rashtrapatibhvn - the official Twitter account of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The three others including @USAandIndia - Official account of the US Embassy in New Delhi, @IndianEmbassyUS - Official Embassy of India in Washington and @USAmbIndia- the Official account of the US Ambassador to India.

PM Modi is the third most followed world leader after US President Trump and Pope Francis. Modi has 42 million followers on his personal account while 26 million people follow the PMO India account.
