Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday flew to Nepal and will take part in the 4th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit in the capital city Kathmandu. PM Modi will be in Kathmandu on a two-day visit from August 30 to 31. BIMSTEC consists of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand, seven countries which lie near the Bay of Bengal.

During his visit, PM Modi will also hold an informal summit with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with leaders of Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand on the side-lines of BIMSTEC in Kathmandu.

The prime minister will hand over the Nepal Bharat Maitri Dharmashala built in the Pashupatinath temple complex in Indian aid to Nepal.
On Wednesday, talking about the BIMSTEC summit, PM Modi said his visit to Kathmandu symbolises India's highest priority to its neighbourhood and a strong commitment to continue deepening ties with the "extended neighbourhood" in South-East Asia.

"I am confident that the 4th BIMSTEC summit will further consolidate the progress made thus far under BIMSTEC, and will chart the course for building a peaceful and prosperous Bay of Bengal Region," the prime minister added.
