On the occasion of National Panchayati Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan at Ramnagar in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking at the event, Modi said that his government was “committed to rural development” and asked panchayat members to focus on the right utilisation of funds.
During the occasion, the Prime Minister facilitated Sarpanchs (village heads) of villages who achieved 100 per cent smokeless kitchens, 100 per cent vaccination under the Mission Indradhanush, and 100 per cent electrification under Saubhagya Scheme.
Modi also announced Rs 120 crore to develop an LPG plant in Mandala district and said that it will bring “a transformation in the lives of the women in Madhya Pradesh.”
He said, “When our villages are transformed, India will be transformed.”

The Prime Minister used the occasion to speak on the issue of rising crime against women and said that the recent steps taken by his government would be “beneficial in furthering the safety of women.”
The Modi government recently passed an ordinance amending the POCSO Act which allows courts to grant death penalty to those found guilty of raping children below 12 years of age.
