Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ‘summoned’ Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb to New Delhi on May 2 after a series of remarks made by him.

"Many BJP leaders are miffed, for Deb is just saying anything and everything. Modiji will talk to him regarding his frequent comments," a senior BJP leader, told a leading daily.

Tripura CM’s summoning is important because many BJP leaders have asked the party to control Deb as his remarks might impact the party in poll-bound Karnataka.

"In the recent elections in Tripura, people have given a massive mandate in favour of the BJP-led alliance. People want the government to focus on development and not create unnecessary controversies. There is huge resentment following the chief minister's comments," the BJP leader added.

The Tripura chief minister attracted media attention over the last couple of weeks with his speeches and remarks and in one of them he stated that internet and satellite communication were present during the time of Mahabharata.

He even picked former beauty queen Diana Hayden and attacked her for her looks, and now he has given some random career advice to mechanical engineers by saying that they should not opt for a career in the civil services and rather should open ‘paan shops’ or ‘milk cows’ instead of chasing government jobs.

"The party is seriously preparing for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and such comments are not in our interest when we are looking to win 21 out of 25 seats in the northeast,” the BJP leader said.

“We are flooded with phone calls and criticism on social media about his insensitive remarks.”
