New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the RuPay card in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday. RuPay is an Indian indigenous system of electronic payment.
PM Modi launched the RuPay card by making a special purchase. In a video on the PMO India Twitter handle, he can be seen using his RuPay card to make the transaction at what appears to be an Indian sweets shop. PM Modi will offer these as prasad at the Shreenathji Temple in Bahrain on Sunday.

RuPay card scheme was launched in 2012 to fulfil the Reserve Bank of India's vision to have a domestic, open and multilateral system of payments. India has already launched the RuPay card in Singapore and Bhutan. PM Modi also said that an MoU has been signed with Bahrain for starting the use of RuPay card there too.
