New Delhi:

In an unusual incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, en route to participate the Swachhata Shramdan movement on Saturday along with other Union ministers in Delhi, got stuck in a traffic jam as no traffic security arrangement or barriers were in place to allow smooth traffic flow during his visit. Earlier in the day, Modi launched the Swachhata Hi Seva, his clean India initiative, and left for the Swachhata Shramdan without any security route in place.

The security breach resulted in Modi getting stuck in a traffic jam for over two minutes. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves for Swachhata Shramdan without any security route in place in Delhi, traffic functioning normally," the Bharatiya Janata Party wrote on its Twitter handle.

Last year, in a similar incident, the convoys of Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath suffered a few minutes in traffic jam due to an alleged security breach. The two leaders were on their way to Noida on December 25 to inaugurate the Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line. The rare incident resulted in two policemen being suspended by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from their respective posts.

In case the prime minister is scheduled for a visit to any particular place all over India, the traffic police of the respective city make several diversions, keeping in view the security arrangements in the place. Commuters, who need to travel between those particular routes are advised to take optional ones to avoid inconveniences.

The Swachhata Hi Seva, the cleanliness drive, which is launched by the BJP government ahead of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary on October 2, 2019, will ensure a clean India image to the entire world.
