External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday denied being in the race for presidential polls and termed it ‘rumour’. Though government and opposition have not declared their candidates for the poll to elect the President of India, several names, including Sushma’s, have been doing rounds as frontrunners.
“These are rumours. I am an external affairs minister and you are asking me something which is an internal matter,” she said when asked by reporters whether she was being considered as a candidate in the presidential poll.
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on July 17, while the counting of votes would take place on July 20.
