In a shocking sexist remark that reeks of brazen misogyny, a BJP minister from Bihar said that though Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is ‘very beautiful’ but it won’t help the Congress in winning elections. Vinod Narayan Jha, a BJP minister in Nitish Kumar’s Bihar government, said that, “she's very beautiful but other than that she holds no political achievement.” He also that, “votes can't be won on basis of beautiful faces.” He also raked up the issue regarding Robert Vadra. “Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is wife of Robert Vadra who is accused of involvement in land scam and several corruption cases.”
Jha is not the only Bihar minister who has attacked Mrs Vadra. Reacting on the formal entry of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s sister in active politics, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi said that the appointment would bring Robert Vadra back in limelight, which will only help the ruling BJP.
In 2017, BJP leader Vinay Katiyar’s sexist remarks had also hit national headlines. "There are women more beautiful than Priyanka Gandhi. There are prettier women in the BJP. Priyanka Gandhi is not as beautiful as she is made out to be," he said. “We have Smriti Irani who is more beautiful than Priyanka Gandhi. There is a crowd wherever she goes. Irani is also a far better speaker than Priyanka,” he had added. At that time, Mrs Vadra had laughed off the mater and had said, “"Haha haha! He's right, they do! And if that's all he sees in my colleagues who are each strong, brave, beautiful women that have battled through all sorts of hardships to get where they are, then he makes me laugh even more. Because he exposes the BJP's mindset towards the better half of the population of India.”
After years of speculation, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra finally entered active politics on Wednesday as she was appointed the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East. Jyotiraditya Scindia was appointed the general secretary for Uttar Pradesh West. Congress president Rahul Gandhi's sister Priyanka Gandhi, 47, has always confined her role in politics to the constituencies of her brother Rahul and mother Sonia Gandhi, Amethi and Raebareli, till now. Her appointment is a key development because Uttar Pradesh, the biggest state in the Lok Sabha with 80 seats, is likely to see a triangular contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance, Samajwadi-Party-Bahujan Samaj Party combine and Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Also, the fact that Prime Minister Narendra and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath both hold constituencies in eastern UP, makes the job tougher for Priyanka.
