Mizoram’s Rajya Sabha member Ronald Sapa Tlau on Friday said prohibition of cattle trade including cow would severely affect the economy as meat trade contributes to 18 per cent of India’s GDP.

During an address to party worker at Congress Bhavan in Aizawl Tlau said that many states are opposing BJP government’s ban on beef as it diminishes the federal structure of India.

The ban is also against the spirit of the citizen’s right to eat as per their choice, he said.

“The radical moves by the BJP and the RSS would backfire,” the MP said, adding that demonetisation was also one of the “hidden agendas” of the ruling BJP.

Ronald Sapa Tlau is the only Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram.
