A student from Pune sustained severe injuries after a scuffle occurred at his college following a change of name of their WhatsApp group. The student who reportedly belonged to the Garware College, Pune has been identified as AKhay Dinkar.
A complaint in this regard was registered by a BBA student Sanket Salunke (22) on Sunday.
As per a report, “some members were giving birthday wishes to the complainant on Whatsapp. Some member changed the subject line to his name. One of the accused students, however, changed the subject line, which irked the complainant’s friend Dinkar and he objected to it that led to a dispute between them,” a police inspector attached to Deccan Gymkhana police station said.
“When they confronted each other the next day in college, the accused student along with his other friends attacked the complainant and his other four friends in which Dinkar sustained grave injuries as he was attacked with a wooden object and weapons,” he said.
He added that Dinkar is recuperating at a private hospital.
“We have registered a case against 22 youths and arrested five under relevant sections of IPC,” the inspector said.
Further investigation is on.
