A 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang-raped by three young men in Punjab’s Fazika district, died of excessive bleeding on Sunday late. The incident came to surface after the victim’s family members reported the incident to the police on Monday. | According to Punjab police, the girl’s family did not report about the incident nor took her to a hospital for treatment fearing social stigma and were treating her at home. Jalalabad DSP Amarjit Singh talking to media said, “We learnt about the incident after one of the villagers informed the police. The girl had died before we reached there. She probably died due to profuse bleeding. Things will be more clear after postmortem reports.†Family members later lodged a complaint with the police. The family members of the victim have alleged that she was abducted and gangraped by three boys. One of the accused was the victim’s classmate. The family told the police, that the victim was a student of a government school in Jalalabad. She was abducted by the three accused on a motorcycle and later raped on October 25. They (family members) launched a manhunt after the victim did not return home on her usual time. Later in the day she was found in unconscious state in the fields. An FIR has been registered against three unidentified persons at Jalalabad Sadar police station under the sections of IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
