Punjab assembly: Agitating Akali-BJP MLAs take seat after CM's warning; AAP MLA suspended for shooting video

MLAs of opposition parties SAD and BJP, who disrupted the House proceeding by storming the Well and raising anti-government slogans, went back to their seats after Chief Minister Amarinder Singh “warned” of revealing names who have got sand mining contracts.

The “warning” came after the Opposition MLAs created ruckus at the beginning of the third day of the budget session in Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

“We do not want any more complication in the House. I’ve list of 10 pages mentioning all names who have got sand mining contracts. I can mention these names in one second here,” the CM said pointing to the protesting MLAs.

After his “warning”, all the Akali and BJP MLAs returned to their seats.

Earlier, BJP lawmaker Som Prakash told the CM, Akali-BJP MLAs will return to their seats if an announcement regarding the loan-waiver is made by the government.

“I have already informed that debt-waiver is a Congress party program which will be implemented,” Amarinder said.

However, the AAP MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira ended up paying the price for ruckus created by Akali-BJP MLAs and was suspended for the remainder of the Punjab Assembly’s budget session.

Khaira suspension came after he uploaded a video of the entire incident involving treasury benches and Akali legislators on Facebook.

Speaker Rana Kanwarpal Singh handed over the matter to the Privilege Committee and ordered the marshals to seize Khaira’s mobile phone.

His suspension comes a day after Lok Insaaf Party MLA Simarjit Singh Bains was barred for the rest of the budget session after papers were hurled at the Chair.

Last year, AAP MP Bhagwant Mann had stoked a controversy after he posted a video on social media of Parliament’s security pickets and internal security arrangements.
