Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday filed his nomination for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections from Amritsar East constituency.

Sidhu said that he is not fighting the elections for his personal gains but for the people of Punjab.

"Not a personal fight, just want youth of Punjab to walk on the right path. It was important for me to come into the system and fight," he told reporters after filing nomination.

"My appeal for each Congress worker and each Punjabi is that vote for Punjab this time."

"Iss baar jeetana hai Punjab ko, Punjabiyat ko, har Punjabi ko. Jodne wale ko maan milta hai, todne wale ko apmaan," he added.
