Punjab’s most wanted gangster and his associate were gunned down by Punjab Police after a an encounter on Friday in Rajasthan. Two police personnel suffered bullet injuries in the incident.

IG Bhathinda Mukhwinder Singh Chhina confirmed the incident. The killed wanted gangster has been identified as 28-year-old Vicky Gounder, while his associate was Prema Lahoria.

A sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector rank officer were injured in the encounter.

Police said, Gounder was one of the six prisoners who had escaped from Nabha Jail in 2016.

“A special team carried out raids on receiving intelligence inputs on Gounder’s hideout in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar district. We surround the house he was hiding and asked him to surrender,” said a police officer part of the raiding team.

He further added that an encounter broke out between police and Gounder’s gang after he started indiscriminately firing at cops.

Police had arrested Gounder in December 2015 as a prime suspect in the murder of a gangster Sukha Kahlwan. He was serving jail term in Nabha Jail from where he had escaped along with six other prisoners.
