Several coaches of Puri-Haridwar Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar area on Saturday.
Ex gratia of Rs 3.5 Lakh for those who lost their lives, Rs 50 thousand for seriously injured and Rs 25 thousand for people with minor injuries in the unfortunate accident has been announced.
This is not the first time that train has been derailed in 2017. Train has been derailed on as many as five occasions in 2017. Take a look at the train derailments which have happened in 2017:
# January 22, 2017
Nine coaches of Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express got derailed in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. The accident caused 40 deaths and 50 injuries. The incident happened because of cracks on rails.
# February 20, 2017
Kalindi Express collided with goods train at Tundla Junction in Uttar Pradesh. As a result, three coaches and engine were derailed from track. As the train was slow during collision, no injuries happened. Both the trains were running on the same track.
# March 17, 2017
A train rammed into an ambulance at an unmanned level crossing at Mannekote-Talaka road near Challakere in Chitradurga district in central Karnataka. The collision caused four deaths. The train rammed into an ambulance which misjudged the speed of train and attempted to cross the railway track.
# March 30, 2017
Eight coaches of the Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express derailed near Kulpahar railway station in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh. 12 people were injured in the incident. Train was running at very high speed when it got derailed.
# April 9, 2017
Goods train derailed in Howrah-Kharagpur section in West Bengal. The goods train was derailed between Madpur and Jakpur stations. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
