PWD scam: AAP cries foul, says Bansal's arrest was aimed at maligning CM Kejriwal's image

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday attacked Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for arresting Vinay Bansal and said that action was taken to malign chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s image.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia cried foul and said that in the last three years, the Delhi Police and ACB only worked for the BJP led central government and the Lieutenant Governor. He accused them of troubling AAP leaders and their relatives.

Vinay Bansal, who is son of Kejriwal’s late brother-in-law Surender Bansal, was arrested by ACB in connection with the alleged PWD scam. ACB had registered three FIRs in the alleged PWD scam on May 9, including one against a company run by Kejriwal’s brother-in-law, Kamal Singh and Pawan Kumar.

Rahul Sharma, founder of Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO), in his complaint had alleged that Arvind Kejriwal and PWD minister Satyendra Jain had granted contracts to Bansal. However, the two were not named in the FIRs.

RACO, which claims to keep a tab on the construction projects in Delhi, had said that a firm linked to Vinay Bansal was allegedly involved in financial irregularities in building a drainage system in north-west Delhi.

The bills that were sent to the Public Works Department (PWD) for unfinished works were allegedly false and fabricated.
