Congress president Rahul Gandhi's surprise hug to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha, has left the country awestruck on Friday.

While Gandhi scion's jaw-dropping gesture amid no-confidence debate has attracted a mixed reaction from Twitterati across the world, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala has come out in his support, saying that "Jadu ki Jhappi can stop the winds of hatred".

"Today Rahul Gandhi showed to the world how a magical and loving hug can stop the winds of hatred. Rahul Gandhi has shown us. Rahul Gandhi has shown the loving face of Congress to Narendra Modi," ANI quoted Surjewala as saying.

Earlier in the day, Rahul walked across the well of Lok Sabha to Modi and gave the prime minister a lovely hug to take him by surprise.

Taking to Twitter, Surjewala praised Rahul for the loving gesture in Lok Sabha following his speech and said the Congress will always spread love in exchange of hatred.

Apart from Surjewala, several other Congress MPs and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi lauded Rahul's gesture of love.

The unprecedented move came after a 15-minute-long stormy speech, in which Rahul attacked the Modi-led NDA government on several fronts including demonetisation, Goods and Services Tax (GST), unemployment, Rafale deal.
