Congress president Rahul Gandhi lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday saying he did not have much time before completing his term, and now he should stop giving speeches and start working for the people.

In a series of roadside and public meetings, he said, “You will have to tell the country during the elections what you did in the last five years. It is going to be five years and you have not even opened your account.”

Gandhi made the statement on his second day of ‘Janashirvada Yatra’ in the poll-bound state of Karnataka and said that Modi was plunging into the past to attack the Congress party rather than looking at his own performance as a party leader.

“BJP failed to create jobs, bring back black money and brought down the economy, but all Modi talks about is Congress is this, Congress is that,” said Gandhi. He said the country had voted for Modi as the Prime Minister so that he could provide employment to the youth, help farmers, and establish schools and hospitals, and not talk about the Congress party.

Lashing out hard at the Prime Minister, Gandhi said, “Modi ji stop giving speeches and start working, because you don’t have much time. You keep taking Basavanna’s name, but you don’t work. You keep talking, but you don’t work. Even if you talk, you only talk about the past.”

Claiming that Congress ‘does what they say’, Gandhi said that his party always worked for the empowerment of the people and worked for the future, while Modi was taking the country back into the past.

“That’s the reason your vehicle falls into ditch or faces accident… You only keep thinking about the past and then do something like demonetisation which created loss for crores of people and implement GST ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’,” he said.

Gandhi also claimed that the Modi government was slowly ignoring the loans of businessmen who had a debt of around Rs 10 lakh crore but was not ready to write off farmers debt.

Gandhi also claimed that in the last five years, there was no single scam issue under Congress’ Siddaramaiah government, while the BJP government had broken ‘world records’ in terms of corruption.

He lashed at the BJP government saying that in the previous BJP government reign, from 2008-2013), three chief ministers, BS Yeddyurappa, Sadananda Gowda, and Jagadish Shettar, were changed in five years, and that four ministers had to resign because they were accused in some or the other case and were sent to jail. He said, “But still Modiji comes here and speaks about corruption against us.”

Gandhi said, “The previous BJP government in Karnataka broke world records in corruption and they come here and talk on corruption pointing at us.”

The Congress president, who is traveling by a special bus along with the other state leaders, received an enthusiastic response from the party workers and people who had gathered in large numbers on both sides of the road at different places in the state.
