Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of letting Nirav Modi, the prime accused in USD 1.77 billion (Rs 11,300 crore) PNB fraud case, slip out of the country like Vijay Mallya.
Rahul Gandhi also questioned Prime Minister Modi’s relationship with Nirav Modi, who was part of the delegation of Indian businessmen at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week.

"On 26 July 2016, PM was handed with all papers regarding Nirav Modi & one of his relative. It was said that complaint had 42 FIRs. PMO acknowledged the complaint, they also sent registrar of companies to take some action. But in the end the govt couldn't do anything," Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.
In what could be India’s biggest scam in banking sector, Punjab National Bank, the country's second-largest public-sector lender on Wednesday informed the Bombay Stock Exchange about the fraudulent transactions worth over Rs 11,000 crore.
The bank named billionaire diamantaire Nirav Modi in its complaint to the CBI and based on CBI’s FIR, the Enforcement Directorate has also registered a case against him in Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
According to the CBI sources in Mumbai, Nirav Modi, the prime accused in USD 1.77 billion PNB fraud case has already fled India and unconfirmed reports said he is hiding in Switzerland.
Aam Aadmi Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also questioned BJP government’s role in allowing Nirav Modi to leave the country.
“Is it possible to believe that he or vijay mallya left the country without active connivance of BJP govt?,” Kejriwal said.
