The heat of the Punjab National Bank fraud has now reached Arun Jaitley’s home with Congress President Rahul Gandhi accusing the Finance Minister’s lawyer daughter of being paid “a large retainer” by the accused.

Rahul Gandhi in a tweet said, "It's now revealed that our FM's silence on the PNB SCAM was to protect his lawyer daughter, who was paid a large retainer by the accused just a month before the SCAM became public.”

The Congress President also asked the reason why his daughter Sonali’s firm was not being raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team probing the PNB scam.

“When other law firms of the accused have been raided by the CBI, why not hers?” Rahul’s tweet said.

Diamond czar Nirav Modi, his uncle Mehul Choksi, who, the Congress claims were close to Prime Minister Modi, allegedly defrauded the Punjab National Bank by making the fraudulent transactions worth over Rs 12,700 crore.

Both Congress and BJP are accusing each other for the country’s biggest banking scam while the key accused are still on the run and the government has no clue about their whereabouts.

The Indian government had revoked the passports of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi who are being probed by the CBI and other investigation agencies.

The central probe agency CBI has been conducting raids on several locations related to Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi including their law firms.

Replying to CBI’s e-mail, Mehul Choksi refused to return India citing threat to life. Another accused Nirav Modi has also told PNB bank that he business was hit badly after the fraud went public and there were very thin chances of him returning the loan he had taken.
