Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday targeted Modi government, asking it to stop making false claims and remove GST from essential commodities used by the general public.
While dubbing it as nation’s voice, Rahul wrote on twitter, stating that the government must put effort to curb inflation by bringing petrol, diesel and cylinder under the GST regime.
He said the government should fix a single rate of GST and it should not be exceeded more than 18 percent.
On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi had said he would not rest till the five-slab "Gabbar Singh Tax" was converted into the "Goods and Services Tax" with an 18-per cent cap.
"We pressured (the Centre), the people of Gujarat, small shopkeepers put pressure and I am happy to say that (Union inance Minister) Arun Jaitleyji has shifted many items to the 18-per cent slab from the 28-per cent tax bracket under the GST," he had told a public meeting in this north Gujarat town.
