The Indian Railways has announced revamp of 40,000 coaches under mission Retro-fitment. Under this mission, Railways has plans to make 80 per cent of the coaches secured and comfortable.
To make Indian Railways more secure, centre buffer coupler will be installed in 35,000 old coaches and 15,000 new ICH coaches. Its installation will avoid coaches to pile on each other in case of a collision and will avoid loss of lives.
Under the mission Retro-fitment, interiors of coaches will also be changed. It has been said that the facilities will significantly improve under this.
The deadline for this mission has been set at year 2022-23. The budget is Rs 15,000 crore, Railways has already stopped production of ICF coaches. After this, only LBS coaches will be manufactured in the country.
Apart from this, new coaches will be launched for differently-abled people. The interiors of the coaches will be designed keeping in the mind the requirements of differently-abled.
Coaches will also have bigger toilets in it.
