Amidst the political turmoil going on in Tamil Nadu's government, megastar Rajinikanth is now reportedly planning to step in the field of politics.
According to the media reports, the legendary actor might join politics soon. “I think this is 100% the right time (for Rajinikanth to enter politics). But he will wait and watch for some time. He will finish his film next year. He will also see what happens in Tamil Nadu politics now,”
Rajinikanth’s brother Sathyanarayana Rao told a leading daily.
And, reports suggest, the front-runner to poach the Southern legend is Bhartiya Janta Party.
"According to sources close to the superstar, the BJP is keen to rope in Rajinikanth. It wants Rajini to join the party and be its chief ministerial face in the elections that it believes could happen anytime in 2017 or 2018. It feels a Rajini-led BJP would be a case of his Sivaji punchline
"Pera kettale chumma adhirudhullai (doesn't everything quake at the mere mention of my name)?" a report in Firstpost said.
A report published in India Today revealed that the 66-year-old star has been advised by senior RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy to float his own outfit," Sources said Gurumurthy's proposal is part of a BJP plan to enter the state riding on the massive popularity and cult status enjoyed by Rajinikanth in Tamil Nadu."
If reports hold ground then inviting Rajnikanth in party folds can be biggest achievement yet for it as it is likely to revive the party in South India, where it does not enjoy the same fan following as rest of the country.
Thalaiva's God-like fan following can be a major boost for any party, but all is not final yet. According to reports, actor Amitabh Bachchan has advised Rajnikanth against it. Hindi Cinema's biggest star had once tried and flunk out of politics himself once. Even if Rajnikanth decides to join politics, BJP may not be able to poach him so easily.
Rajinikanth's brother has reportedly quashed the reports of the 'Kabali' actor joining BJP.
He told a leading daily, “There are no hopes in BJP. He should start a new party. He will definitely get majority.”
Indeed, Rajnikanth entering politics will be a milestone in Tamil Nadu's history, and may change the phase of TN assembly for years to come.
