On May 21, 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by separatist Lankan Tamil outfit LTTE. He was killed by a woman operative of LTTE, who greeted him at a rally in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur town.
A bomb was strapped to the woman’s chest, which exploded when she went near to Rajiv to greet him.
