In view of Raksha Bandhan 2018, free rides for women would be provided in government buses across cities in the country. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) on Friday decided to provide free rides in buses on Raksha Bandhan 2018.
The free rides would be available from 8 am to 10 pm on August 26 in normal and air-conditioned buses, according to a DTC statement.
The DTC, keeping in view of the heavy rush of commuters on Raksha Bandhan, had decided to put maximum buses on the road and the depot managers had been directed for maintenance of buses so that all of them move timely, the DTC said in a statement.
“Sufficient number of traffic supervisory staff will be deputed on the heavy loading points for the convenience of commuters,” the statement added.
The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), as a gift to women on Raksha Bandhan, will offer free rides to women from August 25 midnight till August 26 midnight on all the UPSRTC buses, including AC buses.
An official spokesperson said necessary instructions in this regard had been issued to the UPSRTC.
Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSTC) also announced to provide free rides for women in its buses, both in the general and express category buses for 24 hours starting from 00.00 hrs on August 25.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation, while maintaining free rides will enable sisters to travel to their brothers for free to tie Rakhi, also announced to provide free rides to women in its buses.
The facility was being provided to women on the orders of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, according to an official release.
