It is believed that Lord Ram is an avatar of lord Vishnu. Ram Navmi is a part of Chaitra Navratri. During the nine days of Navratri, devotees worship different avatars of Goddess Durga and keep a fast. The customs vary from people to people according to the region. Devotees end their fast on a ninth day by offering prayers and performing aartis. 

Ram Navmi 2017 will be celebrated on April fifth this year. Ram Navmi is celebrated on the last day of the nine long Navratri celebration.
