States have been asked to display information related to Public DistributionSystem (PDS), including the subsidy borne by the Centre at ration shops all, FoodMinister Ram Vilas Paswan said.
"States have been directed to display information regarding PDS on the notice board of all the FPSs (fair price shops) for information of public," Paswan tweeted.
"States have been directed to display on FPS notice boardshowing share of subsidy by government of India and stateconcerned on PDS foodgrains," he said in another tweet.
Paswan said the economic cost of wheat procurement is Rs24.09 per kg, while it supplies grains at Rs 2 per kg underthe National Food Security Act. The Centre bears a subsidy ofRs 22.09 per kg.
In case of rice, the government bears a cost of Rs 32.64per kg for procurement and provides it to states at Rs 3 perkg for distribution through ration shops. So, the Central subsidy is Rs 29.64 per kg. The National Food Security Act (NFSA), which has been rolled out across the country, provides legal entitlement of 5kg of foodgrains per person per month at Rs 1-3 per kg.
The Centre provides Rs 1.4 lakh crore annually to implement the food law.
