Ranchi: After fatwa, Muslim woman Yoga teacher Rafia Naaz's house attacked

New Delhi:

Unidentified people on Friday pelted stones at the house of Muslim woman teacher Rafia Naaz against whom a fatwa was issued for teaching Yoga.

Following the attack, security has been increased at Rafia’s residence in Ranchi and police is trying to identify the attackers.

Earlier, Rafia Naaz, a Muslim woman Yoga teacher was threatened by the members of her community and a fatwa was also issued against her.

Rafia informed Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) about the incident and a complaint was lodged, Deputy SP Vikas Chandra Srivastav said.

“Following her meeting with the SSP, the police had provided security to her. But after she gave an interview to a TV channel, some people pelted stones at her house,” Deputy SP Srivastav said.

"I have received a lot of threats, I am thankful to the State Govt for providing security. I will not be scared and will continue with what I am doing," said undeterred Rafia Naaz.

Two quick response teams have been stationed near Naaz’s house, Srivastav said, adding that senior police personnel have assured security to the Yoga teacher and her family.
