The Parshuram temple in Uttarakhand has decided to revoke its ban on women and Dalits nearly after 400 years.
The management of the temple has announced that every individual regardless of gender and cast will be allowed to worship inside the temple premises.
"This region is on the path of progress. Our literacy rate has gone up and people want scenarios to change" said Jawahar Singh Chauhan, chairman of management committee was quoted saying in a report.
There were reports that Dalits in the region had been protesting against this ban. The debate around women entering temples like Sabarimala and Shani Shingnapur has also become very heated in the last few months, with even the Supreme Court getting involved.
However, with such news surfacing on the internet, we can surely say that decision of the temple authorities is welcome step.
