Renowned Indian humorist and playwright Taarak Mehta passes away at the age of 87 years after prolonged illness. Taarak Mehta was best known for the column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma in the Gujarati language. 

Taarak Mehta has published almost 80 books, out of which three books are based on the columns that he has written in Gujarati newspaper Divya Bhaskar while others are compiled from the stories in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

Taarak Mehta was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, in 2015.

Chief Minister of Gujarat took to twitter he wrote 'Saddened by the death of Tarak Mehta - humorist & columnist. He always brought smile to our faces. My condolences to family members'.
