The Congress Working Committee (CWC) members on Monday unanimously supported vice-president Rahul Gandhi's elevation to being president of the party.

"Right time for Rahul Gandhi to take charge as the President of Congress party," AK Antony in the meeting said. ANI report says other members present in the CWC meet agreed on Antony's suggestion.

However, an ANI tweet quoted a source as saying Sonia Gandhi is likely to continue as Congress president for another year. Earlier on Monday, 46-year-old Rahul presided over the crucial CWC meeting which will take a decision on the party's organisational election.

This is the first time that Rahul has presided over the meeting which is being attended by Congress top brass. Rahul was appointed Congress Vice President in January 2013 at Jaipur 'Chintan Shivir'.

Senior party leaders Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Janardan Dwivedi, Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni and AK Antony were among those attending the meet and will decide on the possible deferring of organisational election to next year.
