Right-wing activists pelt stones at Former Uttarakhand minister accused of rape charge

Some Hindu-right wing activists on Thursday allegedly pelted stones at Maulana Masood Madani and gheraoed the police vehicle escorting the rape accused to a Deoband court for a hearing in Saharanpur, police said.

The protesters also tried to catch hold of Masood, who is the younger brother of Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Mehmood Madani. Police force was deployed in the court premises and other nearby areas.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh said Masood was brought to the Deoband court for an appearance in the rape case. Some members of Hindu right wing groups tried to grab Masood and raised slogans against him while pelting stones.

SSP Luv Kumar said strict action will be taken against those responsible for attacking Masood and added that a case will be lodged against the protestors.

Masood, who was a minister in the Uttarakhand government, is accused of raping a woman on the pretext of giving her treatment.
