Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari along with Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje inaugurated and laid foundation stone for development works worth Rs 2100 crore in Sri Ganganagar.
Gadkari said under Bharat Mala scheme 253 km-long new highway will be constructed from Sri Ganganagar to Karanpur, Gajsinghpur, Raisingh Nagar, Rawala and Dantor.
He also announced sanction of new roads in Dantor, Khajuwala, Nachana and Jaisalmer.
He said 1312.70 km new roads have been sanctioned in Rajasthan and the construction of these roads will commence in the next six months.
Gadkari announced that Rs 16,000 crore will be spent on Jal Marg Project to connect Jaisalmer, Barmer and other districts with Kandla Port.
Raje said the development works were being taken up keeping in view the requirements of people of the region.
Staging dharna or protest with political motive by some people will not be accepted as such people have nothing to do with the development, she said.
Raje said apart from development works of worth Rs 2105 crore taken up today, development works of Rs 1580 crore have already been done in Sri Ganganagar district.
These development works show that state government is committed for the development of every district of the state, she said.
The Chief Minister said there were 7000 km-long National Highways during the previous government but has now gone up to 9326 km in the present dispensation.
On the occasion, Raje tied Rakhi to Gadkari and PWD Minister Yunus Khan, an official release said tonight.
