Three days after Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan filed her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha (RS) on Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket, its general secretary and MP Naresh Agarwal on Monday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after he was ignored a ticket to the upper-house of the parliament.

Agarwal said, “My ticket was denied for a person who dances in films. That is even more painful. I will vote for BJP in Rajya Sabha and I thank PM Modi for showing faith on me.”

The seven-time MLA from Hardoi constituency announced that he was joining the saffron party in presence of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. Agarwal’s son Nitin Agarwal, who is current MLA from Hardoi also joined the BJP.

“I am joining the BJP as I think you cannot do anything good for the soicety unless you are in a national party. I am impressed by PM Modi, BJP president Amit Shah. I respect Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav, but the current scenario in SP is very sad.”

Samajwadi Party has currently has 47 MLAs in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and can send only one candidate to the upper house.
