Lucknow:

Two days after Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Mayawati announced their alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, SP lawmaker Hariom Yadav has voiced dissent against the decision and claimed that the alliance will not work as it will be dominated by Mayawati. Hariom said that the alliance will work only as long party’s national president (Akhilesh Yadav) keeps obeying Mayawati.

“SP-BSP alliance will not work in Firozabad. It won't be successful here. This alliance will last till the time our national president continues to agree to Behenji's term and bow down in front of her. (Yeh gathbandhan tabhi tak chal sakta hai jab tak humare rashtriya adhyakshji Behenji ki haan mein haan milate rahenge aur ghutne tekte rahenge.),” Hariom, father-in-law of Samajwadi Party veteran Mulayam Singh, was quoted as saying by ANI.

The statement has been made despite that fact the Akhilesh Yadav, during the SP-BSP joint press conference, had advised party supporters to respect Mayawati as much as they respect him.

"Samajwadi Party workers should keep in mind that BSP chief Mayawati Ji's disrespect will be my disrespect (Samajwadi Party ke karyakarta ek baat ki gaath bandh len ki adarniya Mayawati Ji ka apman mera apman hai)" the SP leader had said.

Explaining the reason behind the alliance, Yadav said both the parties will contest elections together to fight against the communal hatred spread by the BJP. "To defeat the arrogance of the BJP, it was necessary for the BSP and the SP to come together. The BJP can go to any extent to create differences in our workers, we must be united and counter any such tactic," Yadav said.
