New Delhi:

Samastipur Bypoll Results 2019 Live Updates: Lok Janshakti Party on Thursday retained the Samastipur Lok Sabha seat from where Prince Raj made a successful debut in the by-election necessitated by the death of his father. Ram Chandra Paswan, brother of  of party chief Ram Vilas Paswan, had won the seat in the general elections for a second consecutive term in 2019. He passed away on 21 July 2019.

Prince Raj defeated Ashok Kumar of the Congress by over 1.02 lakh votes. The debutant polled 3,90,276 votes as against 2,88,186 secured by his Congress rival who had finished second in both 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The win in Samastipur was a relief for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) which suffered a huge setback, losing four of the five assembly seats where by-elections were held in the state.

Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM opened its account in the state winning the Kishanganj seat. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JDU lost three of the four seats it contested while BJP suffered defeat on the sole seat where it fielded a candidate. The assembly segments had fallen vacant upon the respective MLAs getting elected to the Lok Sabha. Most of the candidates in the by-elections are relatives of the former MLAs.  However, most of these candidates with links to elected leaders, lost across the state.

Prince Raj of the Lok Jan Shakti Party leads over Ashok Kumar the Congress by 9,201 votes in the by-poll to Samastipur Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar.

Prince Raj, the son of late Ramchandra Paswan, is leading in early trends.

Counting of votes for Samastipur (SC) Lok Sabha seat has started in Bihar. This Lok Sabha constituency comprises six assembly seats. The bypoll took place in the constituency due to the death of sitting MP of LJP Ramchandra Paswan of LJP.
