In a tragic incident, a 48-year-old sanitation worker died on Sunday while sewage cleaning in LNJP Hospital in New Delhi. Three people are also hospitalised in the incident.
The sanitation work was allotted to a private contractor by the PWD department. The deceased has been identified as one, Rishipal.
The police will register a case of death due to negligence against the contractor.
On August 6, three sanitation workers died allegedly due to asphyxiation while cleaning a drain in southeast Delhi's Lajpat Nagar, police had said. The incident was reported around 1 PM, they had said.
The workers were cleaning a sewer line in Lajpat Nagar near the Kabir Ram temple. They had gone inside the sewer and inhaled toxic fumes and were later found unconscious there, they had said.
They were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where the doctors declared the "brought dead".
Two of the victims were identified as Joginder (32) and Annu (28), while the identity of the third was yet to be ascertained, police had said.
