Sanjay Sinh, Congress Rajya Sabha MP, resigns from party

Sanjay Sinh, the Congress MP from the Rajya Sabha, resigned from both the Grand Old Party and the Upper House on Tuesday. Considered a close aide of Gandhis, Sinh is known ‘Amethi Naresh’. His wife Amita Sinh also announced her resignation from the Congress. Amita Sinh is a two-time MLA. Amit won from Amethi Assembly seat in 2002 on a BJP ticket and in 2007 on a Congress ticket. She lost the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections to Garima Singh, who was first wife of Sanjay Sinh.

Sinh confirmed the resignation and announced that he will join the BJP tomorrow. Addressing the media shortly after his resignation, Sinh said that there was no dialogue in the Congress. He said that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi can help in fulfilling India’s dreams.

In 2014, Sinh was considered as the richest among the Rajya Sabha contestants. According to the affidavit, Sinh had total assets worth Rs 20.62 crore. As per the affidavit, the Sinh couple possess two pistols, two DBBL (Double Barrel Breech Loading) guns, one carbine and a rifle, besides a total of 96.772 acres of agricultural land in Uttar Pradesh. Assessing properties under the Congress candidate's wife's name, the total value of movable and immovable assets were totalled Rs 34.55 crore. Along with his wife, Sinh had movable properties worth Rs 6.39 crore, while it is Rs 28.17 crore in case of immovable assets.
