New Delhi:

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to intervene on controversial statement made by Shankaracharya of Dwarkapeeth regarding worshipping Sai Baba. The apex court said that Sai Baba devotees can file a civil suit or criminal case against Shankaracharya if their right to worship is hampered.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the PIL filed by Mumbai’s Sai Charitable Trust against Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, saying it is the matter of religious belief.

The raging fight between Shankaracharya and Sai supporters reached the apex court with the Sai Charitable Trust knocking the doors of Supreme Court to get justice in the matter.

In the PIL, the Trust has sought direction to the Centre and Maharashtra government to ensure that the idols of Sri Sai Baba were not illegally removed from any temple across the country and his devotees were not obstructed from worshiping.
