SC issues notice to Shahabuddin on plea challenging his bail granted by Patna HC

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay Patna High Court's order regarding bail to former RJD MP Shahabuddin. The apex court will hear the matter on Monday, September 26.

The SC bench of justice PC Ghose and justice Amitava Roy also issued notice to Shahabuddin while hearing plea of Bihar government and Chandrakeshwar Prasad against the September 7 Patna High Court order granting bail to the RJD leader.

Chandrakeshwar Prasad's three sons were allegedly murdered by Shahabuddin.

Earlier on Friday, the apex court had agreed to hear two petitions seeking cancellation of bail to Shahabuddin..

In another hearing of the petition filed by wife of murdered journalist Rajdev Ranjan seeking transfer of the trial and investigation of the case to Delhi, the apex court said, "".

After having spent 11 years in jail, Shahabuddin walked out on bail amid cheers of supporters on September 10. Shahabuddin is facing at least 39 cases of murder, kidnap and extortion.

Soon after he walked out of the Bhagalpur Central Jail, Shahabuddin stirred up a row by saying his leader was RJD’s Lalu Prasad, not Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

As he came out of the jail, he said: “For me, Lalu is the leader and Nitish is a leader of circumstances.”

Shahabuddin was jailed during Nitish’s first tenure (2005-2010) for the killing of two brothers, whose bodies were found bathed in acid in November 2005.
