The Supreme Court on Friday refused to accept rejection of 43 names by Centre recommended by its Collegium for appointment of High Court judges.
Later, the top court sent back all 43 names for reconsideration by the Central government.
The apex court also expressed reservation on Centre's plea for direction that no court except apex court hears pleas on demonetisationnotification.
The Collegium had sent 77 names to Centre of which 34 cleared and 43 were sent back to Collegium.
Earlier in September, the Chief Justice of Supreme Court had expressed anguish over the Centre’s failure to implement the collegium’s decisions on transfer and appointment of judges.
The Rajya Sabha was informed by the government during the last Parliament session that 478 vacancies were yet to be filled up in 24 High Courts and nearly 39 lakh cases were pending there.
