Indian railways services were affected due to protests

Indian railways services on Monday were affected and few trains were partially-terminated as protestors laid down on the tracks against the Supreme Court’s order on the SC/ST Act.

The protestors clogged rail and road traffic and resorted to violence in the states of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and Rajasthan, as around 100 train services got affected

The following trains were cancelled on Monday due to excessive violence and protests: 14650 - Amritsar-Jaynagar Saryu Yamuna Express, 12013 - New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express, 19717 - Jaipur-Chandigarh Intercity Express, 12016 - Ajmer-New Delhi Shatbdi Express, 13133 - Sealdah-Varanai Express.

"There were some incidents of a gathering of agitators at Firozpur, Hapur, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad yard, but there was no damage to railway property. Stray incidents of stone-pelting were reported from one or two places, but no passenger or railway personnel was hurt," Nitin Chowdhury, Spokesperson of Northern Railways said.

43 trains were affected in the Eastern Central Railways because of the violence and protests in the Dhanbad division. In Bihar, the Patna Junction railway station was flooded by the protestors who forcibly closed down the booking counters and laid on the racks.

18 train services were unsettled around the North Eastern Railway, Northeast Frontier Railways and South Eastern Railway.

The Bharat Bandh was called after the Supreme Court laid new guidelines to protect public servants from immediate arrest after complaint is filed against them under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocitis) Act.
