Senior journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead at her residence in Bengaluru's Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Tuesday evening. She succumbed to multiple bullet injuries on her body.
DCP West MN Anucheth said that a shootout took place at Gauri Lankesh's house on Tuesday evening. The body was found in her veranda, the DCP said. Bangalore commissioner of police T Suneel Kumar said,"We found Gauri Lankesh lying in a pool of blood and found four empty cartridges from the scene of offence. The number of assilants are yet not clear."
While talking to reporters, Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said there are two CCTV cameras which could give lead in the case and police teams are working on this. A few people stage protest outside Lankesh's residence.Â

As per media reports, unidentified assilants entered her house and attacked Lankesh after which she collapsed on the spot. Â
Dwarkanath, a friend of Lankesh , said," This is a cowardly act. She was just a writer and journalist, not a terrorist or naxalite."Â

Lankesh had been vocal against the right wing and last year she was convicted in a case which was filed by BJP MP Pralhad Joshi who had raised objection against a report on BJP leaders.

Lankesh was the editor of weekly tabloid magazine Lankesh Patrike.Â
