In a major setback for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, convicted in four fodder scam cases, the Ranchi High Court on Friday dismissed his provisional bail plea. Lalu, who is currently undergoing treatment at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai, will now have to surrender before the court on August 30, the court directed.
The high court told Lalu’s lawyer that he will now have to undergo treatment at RIMS hospital in Ranchi. Earlier on May 11, the high court had granted Lalu six weeks provisional bail on medical grounds and again extended it till August 14.
Later on August 10, the court had extended the provisional bail till August 20 on medical grounds.
These cases pertain to illegal withdrawal of money from government treasuries in different districts of Bihar for animal husbandry in 1990s when the RJD was in power in the state.
