Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet on Wednesday approved recommendations on allowances under the Seventh Pay Commission for government employees.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tabled the report in front of the Cabinet on Wednesday which included various issues like the increase in House Rent Allowance (HRA) among other allowances.

The cabinet approval has brought great joy to nearly 50 lakh Central government employees who had high hopes from the Central Government on getting a much sought after revision on allowances under the Seventh Pay Commission.

Narendra Modi-led Cabinet earlier met on Wednesday to discuss and decide on the revised allowance structure under the Seventh Pay Commission for government employees.  According to some reports, Narendra Modi met Arun Jaitley before leaving for the US and had suggested that there should not be further delay in announcing allowances for Central government employees.

Here are all the key updates on the 34 modifications made to the allowances structure under the 7th Pay Commission:

#Hospital patients allowance increased from Rs 2070 pm - Rs 4100 pm - Arun Jaitley 

#Operation Theatre allowance increased from Rs 360 pm to Rs 540 pm - Arun Jaitley

#Govt increases nursing allowances rates from Rs 4800 pm to Rs 7200 pm - Arun Jaitley

#Pensioners shall be given a medical allowance of Rs 1000 instead of Rs 500 pm - Arun Jaitley 

#Contested Attendance Allowance on 100 percent disablement increased from Rs 4500 per month to Rs 6750 per month- Arun Jaitley  

#House Rent Allowance will be paid at 24 per cent, 16 percent and 8 percent for X,Y, Z cities respectively - Arun Jaitley

#Seventh Pay Commission to benefit 7.5 lakh employees - Arun Jaitley 

#The ration allowances for armed forces personnel posted in peace areas shall be given in cash or deposited in their accounts - FM Arun Jaitley 

#There will a restructuring related to technical allowances for people serving in Atomic Research centre - FM Arun Jaitley

There has been an enhancement in Siachen Allowance for Army personnel from Rs 14000 per month to Rs 30000 per month (other ranks), Rs 21000 per month to Rs 42500 per month (for officers) - Arun Jaitley

HRA allowances are divided into three categories X, Y and Z. A minimum floor for the lowest category has be ascertained - FM Arun Jaitley
