In yet another tragic incident, at least 13 people, including some women were killed and four others injured after an over speeding lorry collided with a crowded auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana on Sunday. The incident took place on the Jadcherla-Kalwakurthy highway, 12 km from Jadcherla, near Kottapalli village around 7:00 pm this evening.
The deceased, who were labourers by professions, were on their way to home, police said, adding that the auto was at least carrying 16 in it when the mishap occurred. Those died in the incident include Salamma (50), Vadde Chennamma (50), Katike Balamani (45), Bandari Ellamma (45), Ragula Sivaleela (40), Bollepogu Venkatamma (45), Bichodi (40), H. Venkatamma (35), Sevya (30), Chandi (35) and Sivaji Naik.

Shortly afterwards, a group of people including family members and relatives of the deceased staged a protest on the highway demanding justice, including a compensation for those killed. They alleged frequent accident at the place owing to a curve on the road, which made visibility poor.
The sit-in, which disrupted the traffic movement on the road for hours, finally came to an end after the local MLA and Collector reached the spot. The angry mob also damaged the 108 ambulance which arrived to shift the bodies.

Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock over the accident and instructed the officials concerned to offer best medical facilities to the injured, an official release said. Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud also rushed to the spot and took a stock of the situation.
