Former JNU student Sharjeel Imam has made a controversial statement that Muslims can cut the entire Northeast from the rest of India. "If we have 5 lakh organised people then we can permanently cut north-east from India or at least for one month. Disrupt the root so that they cannot even remove it for a month. It is our responsibility to isolate Assam from India, then only they will listen to us," Shaheen Bagh Coordination committee chief Sharjeel Imam can be heard saying in the video shared by BJP leader Sambit Patra.
Sharjeel can be seen claiming in the video that Assamese Muslims are being sent to a detention centre in Assam due to exclusion from NRC and asking them to 'use their anger productively'.
“We may come to know that in 6-8 months all Bengalis have been killed - Hindu or Muslim. If we want to help Assam, then we will have to stop the way to Assam for the Indian Army and other supplies," he said.
He also criticised CPI(M) leader Kanhaiya Kumar for saying leaders like him will visit there to take photos. "Politicians like Kanhaiya will go there, call for Inquilab, take photos and come back. The mass will be ours (Muslims) and the face will be of theirs, which will not have anything productive,” he can be heard.
Delhi Police to take appropriate action if Shaheen Bagh protest obstructs the poll process
With the Shaheen Bagh protest continuing for over a month, the Delhi Police on Wednesday said it would take appropriate action if a complaint is received about any obstruction in the ongoing electoral process for the assembly polls next month.
Special Commissioner of Police (Election) Praveer Ranjan said the force has not yet received any complaint about protestors in Shaheen Bagh causing obstruction in the electoral process.
Thousands of people, including women and children, have been protesting since December 15 at Shaheen Bagh and nearby Jamia Millia Islamia against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens.
