Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor was battling a prolonge illness and took his last breath at the Kokolaben Ambani Hospital on Monday. The Deewar actor, 79, was part of more than 150 movies and has recieved several awards for his immense contribution to Hindi cinema.

As the nation lost an immensly talented actor and movie maker Shashi Kapoor, reactions started pouring from all quarters. His passing away has shocked not only the film industry but numerous fans alike.  

The veteran actor was suffering from a prolonged illness and took his last breath at the Kokolaben Ambani Hospital on Monday. The Deewar actor, 79, was part of more than 150 movies and received many awards for his immense contribution to Indian and international cinema. 

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind expressed his condolence on Kapoor's demise. He on Twitter wrote, "Sorry to hear of the demise of Shashi Kapoor, well-known actor, with a repertoire of Indian and international films. His support for meaningful cinema as a producer and pivotal role in the theatre movement in India too are cherished. Condolences to his family #PresidentKovind"

Remembering the veteran actor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on twitter wrote, "Shashi Kapoor's versatility could be seen in his movies as well as in theatre, which he promoted with great passion. His brilliant acting will be remembered for generations to come. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers."

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on learning Kapoor's death said, "Saddened to learn of his demise. He was fine actor and a wonderful human being. May his soul rest in peace."

The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on learning the Satyam Shivam Sundaram lead actor's death said that he will be remembered for generations for his great work in cinema.   

Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani terms the veteran actors death as end of an era. She said, "Saddened by the demise of legendary actor Shashi Kapoor ji. His contribution to Indian Cinema is monumental. Shashi ji’s passing away marks the end of an era. My deepest condolences to his loved ones, colleagues and fans. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti!"

Former Indian cricketer Virendar Sehwag on Twitter gave his condolences to family and friends. He said, "You will continue to inspire future generation."
