Shashi Tharoor, the Congress Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram had on Sunday posted a tweet which purportedly targeted demonetization mentioning the newly-crowned Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar's surname.
Exactly @vineetjaintimes agree with you on this. A girl who has just won the World isn’t going to be upset over a tongue-in-cheek remark. ‘Chillar’ talk is just small change - let’s not forget the ‘chill’ within Chhillar 🙂 @ShashiTharoor https://t.co/L5gqMf8hfi

Following the backlash from several quarters, he tweeted, “What a terrific answer by this bright young woman -- a real credit to Indian values!†as a supposed damage control.Â

Addressing Manushi he tweeted, “You're a class act, @ManushiChhillar! Beautiful, smart & uncommonly gracious too. Still, if any offense was caused to any member of your family, sincere apologies. Like every Indian, I'm proud of you.â€

In a tweet supposedly directed at his hecklers, he further added, “Guess the pun IS the lowest form of humour, & the bilingual pun lower still! Apologies to the many who seem to have been righteously offended by a light-hearted tweet today. Certainly, no offence was meant to a bright young girl whose answer I've separately praised. Please: Chill!â€Â Â

“From the Bhumi Sukta (Hymn to the Earth), Atharva Veda XII.1.58:
The words that I speak are sweet as honey!
My glances meet with fair glances in return;
Vehement am I, swift and impetuous!
Those who gnash their teeth I utterly vanquish!

To recall, back in May Tharoor had slammed a TV channel and its anchor who reportedly slandered his late wife Sunanda Pushkar in his own unique style and verbosity.Â
The man who could have been the UN Secretary-General drafted a tweet that had the best of learned maddened.
He tweeted, “Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations and outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist.â€

This is the tweet that started the Word War!
"What a mistake to demonetise our currency! BJP should have realised that Indian cash dominates the globe: look, even our Chhillar has become Miss World!," Tharoor tweeted.
